What Makes Acetal POM Unique?

POM has the lowest coefficient of friction of any common 3D printing filament — parts slide against each other smoothly without lubrication. Combined with high stiffness (flexural modulus ~2,600 MPa) and excellent creep resistance, POM parts maintain tight tolerances under sustained mechanical loads. This makes it irreplaceable for functional mechanical components.

Best Applications for POM

Gears, bearings, bushings, rollers, conveyor components, sliding mechanisms, cam followers, valve bodies, impellers, pulley systems, zipper components, and any part requiring low friction and high wear resistance. POM is also resistant to many solvents, fuels, and chemicals.

POM vs. Nylon — When to Choose Which

Both are engineering materials, but they serve different purposes. POM wins on stiffness, dimensional stability, and low friction — choose it for gears and precision parts. Nylon filament wins on impact resistance and flexibility — choose it for snap-fits, hinges, and parts that need to absorb shock.

Printing Recommendations

Nozzle: 200–220°C. Bed: 100–120°C with PEI sheet or Kapton tape. POM releases formaldehyde gas when heated — always print in a well-ventilated area or with an enclosure that has active filtration. Use a brim for bed adhesion and keep cooling fans at 50% or lower.
