Dynalabs Simpliflex TPU Filament 2.85mm — Flexible Printing for Ultimaker Users

Finding quality TPU filament in 2.85mm is surprisingly difficult — most brands focus exclusively on 1.75mm. The Dynalabs Simpliflex TPU 2.85mm fills that gap, giving Ultimaker and Lulzbot users access to the same rubber-like 95A Shore flexibility that 1.75mm printers enjoy. Available in Black at $17.49 per kilogram with free shipping across the USA.

The 2.85mm diameter actually offers an advantage for TPU printing: the thicker filament is stiffer in the feed path, which reduces the buckling and jamming issues that plague flexible filaments. Combined with Ultimaker's enclosed build volume and reliable direct-feed mechanism, the 2.85mm Simpliflex is one of the more forgiving TPU printing experiences available.

Recommended Print Settings

For Ultimaker S-series printers, use the generic TPU profile in Cura as a starting point: 228°C nozzle, 60°C bed, 25mm/s print speed. Reduce retraction to 4mm at 20mm/s (the larger diameter means less retraction distance is needed). Keep the feeder tension moderate — too tight crushes the soft filament, too loose and it slips. Print supports at 50% density for easy removal from flexible parts.

Pro Tips

Black TPU is the most popular color for functional flexible parts for a reason — it hides scuff marks, fingerprints, and minor print imperfections. For gaskets and seals, print with 100% infill and 4+ perimeters to maximize rubber-like behavior. For flexible hinges, 15–20% infill creates a springy structure that flexes more easily. The Ultimaker print core CC 0.6 (with its hardened nozzle) works well with TPU if you plan high-volume production.

Best Applications

Industrial gaskets and seals, vibration isolators for equipment, flexible prototypes for product testing, custom soft-touch grips, medical device prototypes (in educational settings), robotic components, and any application requiring flexible 2.85mm filament in a professional print environment.
