Dynalabs ABS Filament 2.85mm — Industrial ABS for Ultimaker and Lulzbot Printers

If your workshop runs Ultimaker or Lulzbot printers and you need the heat resistance and acetone-smoothing capabilities of ABS, the Dynalabs ABS 2.85mm delivers at $14.99 per kilogram. Available in Black and White — the two most-used colors for functional prototypes and engineering parts. Same industrial-grade ABS formulation as the 1.75mm version, just in the diameter your printer requires.

The 2.85mm format is standard in professional and educational environments where Ultimaker printers dominate. Consistent ±0.03mm diameter tolerance ensures reliable volumetric extrusion, which is critical for ABS where even slight over-extrusion causes warping and adhesion failures.

Key Specifications

Material ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)
Diameter 2.85mm ± 0.03mm
Spool Weight 1kg (2.2 lbs)
Colors Available Black, White
Nozzle Temperature 230–260°C
Bed Temperature 95–110°C
Print Speed 40–70mm/s
Heat Deflection ~100°C
Smoothable Yes (acetone vapor)

Recommended Print Settings

Ultimaker users should start with the default ABS profile in Cura: 245°C nozzle, 100°C bed, 50mm/s print speed. Lulzbot users: 240°C nozzle, 110°C bed. Both printers offer enclosed or semi-enclosed build volumes, which is essential for ABS. Retraction settings for 2.85mm: 6–8mm distance at 25mm/s speed. Use the Ultimaker adhesion sheets or apply ABS juice (dissolved ABS scraps in acetone) for the most reliable first layer.

Pro Tips

The 2.85mm diameter makes ABS filament stiffer and harder to tangle compared to 1.75mm, which is an advantage for long unattended prints and print farms. However, the thicker diameter also means the filament path must be free of sharp bends — ensure your spool holder and Bowden tube (if applicable) allow smooth, low-friction feeding. For Ultimaker S5 users, the material station handles ABS 2.85mm spools natively with humidity control built in.

Best Applications

Engineering prototypes, functional testing parts, jigs and fixtures for manufacturing, acetone-smoothed presentation models, heat-resistant enclosures, and educational projects in university and makerspace environments running Ultimaker printers.
