Complete Set (8 Wheels + 4 Feet), Drop-In TPU Replacement

If you're building or upgrading a Box Turtle multi-color filament changer, this is the complete set of rubber contact parts you need: 8 respooler tires and 4 anti-slip feet — all in one kit, ready to install. No printing required, no TPU filament, no tuning a slicer to get the right shore hardness. Just real molded rubber, drop-in fit.

What Is the Box Turtle — Quick Context

The Box Turtle is an open-source, AMS-style automated filament changer for Klipper printers (think Bambu Lab AMS, but for Voron, Trident, and any other Klipper machine). It holds up to 4 spools and switches between them automatically during a print — letting you do multi-color or multi-material prints without manually swapping filament.

Each of the 4 lanes has its own respooler — a motorized roller system that grabs the spool and keeps it rewinding smoothly as filament feeds in and out. Think of it like a powered fishing reel: when filament gets pulled out toward the printer, the spool needs to spin freely; when filament gets retracted, the respooler actively rewinds it to prevent tangling. The rubber tires are what grip the spool to make that happen.

What's in the Kit

Part Quantity Function
Respooler Tires (rubber wheels) 8 pieces Grip the filament spool in the respooler mechanism. 2 tires per lane × 4 lanes = full set for one complete Box Turtle.
Rubber Feet 4 pieces Anti-slip feet for the bottom of the Box Turtle frame. Keep the unit from sliding on your desk or enclosure surface during filament changes.

Molded Rubber vs Printed TPU — Why It Matters

The Box Turtle BOM calls for TPU wheels and feet — and most builders either print them or order a kit that includes printed versions. Printed TPU works, but it comes with trade-offs:

  • Inconsistent shore hardness — TPU print settings (temperature, speed, walls) affect how stiff or soft the final part is. Too stiff and it doesn't grip the spool. Too flexible and it deforms under the motor's torque.
  • Layer lines reduce grip — printed surfaces have ridges from layer deposition. Molded rubber has a uniform, smooth contact surface that grips more consistently around the spool's circumference.
  • Wear faster — the respooler tires are in constant contact with the rotating spool. Printed TPU wears at the layer lines first. Molded rubber wears evenly.

Molded rubber parts are dimensionally consistent, grip better, and last longer. That's the whole reason they exist as a separate purchasable item rather than just "print them yourself."

Who Is This For?

  • Box Turtle builders starting from scratch who want to skip printing TPU parts entirely — order the kit, install molded rubber, done.
  • Existing Box Turtle owners replacing worn tires — if your respooler is slipping, inconsistently rewinding, or the printed TPU wheels have flattened or cracked, this is your maintenance kit.
  • Builders without a printer that runs TPU reliably — direct drive setups handle TPU well, but not everyone has one. This kit removes that constraint entirely.
  • Anyone chasing reliability in multi-color prints — a slipping respooler tire causes spool buckling, which causes filament jams, which kills a long multi-color print. Consistent rubber grip is a small part with a big impact on overall system reliability.

One kit. 12 parts. Every rubber contact point on your Box Turtle, covered.
