Phaetus × TriangleLab Dragon ACE Hotend — Ceramic Heating Pad, Titanium Heatbreak, 74 mm³/s, One-Handed Nozzle Changes, V6 Compatible

The Dragon ACE is the next generation of the Dragon hotend — co-developed by Triangle-Lab and Phaetus — engineered to outperform the original Dragon on every measurable axis without sacrificing the compatibility and one-handed nozzle-change architecture that made the Dragon platform a benchmark for precision hotends. Ceramic heating pads replace the conventional cartridge heater. A thicker titanium alloy heatbreak replaces the thin-wall stainless steel tube. The result is a hotend that heats faster, weighs less, handles abrasive filaments longer, and delivers up to 74 mm³/s volumetric flow with the Melt Zone Extender (MZE) installed — while remaining compatible with V6 and Dragon toolhead mounts.

⚠️ Hot tightening required. Always final-tighten the nozzle at operating temperature to prevent leaks.
⚠️ Heatblock is 8.5mm longer than the original Dragon. Fan duct outlet and probe height may need to be adjusted if you're mounting in a toolhead designed for the standard Dragon. Volcano-specific fan duct and probe mounts resolve this. Spacer included for original Dragon mounts — see compatibility notes below.
⚠️ Nozzle thread: V6 style, 7.5mm thread length only. Standard V6 nozzles (6mm thread) will not seat correctly in the Dragon ACE.

Ceramic Heating Pad — Faster Heat-Up, Lighter Weight, Easier Replacement

The original Dragon uses a conventional 6mm cartridge heater — a cylindrical resistive element that inserts into the heatblock and makes contact over a curved surface. The Dragon ACE replaces this with a ceramic heating pad — a flat resistive element that contacts the heatblock across a defined flat surface. The contact geometry is more consistent cartridge-to-cartridge than a round cartridge seated in a round bore, which means more predictable heat transfer and more uniform block temperature. Ceramic pads also have a lower thermal mass than cartridge heaters of comparable power — they reach target temperature faster, respond to PID corrections faster, and are easier to replace when damaged because they don't require pulling a press-fit cylinder from a bore. The net effect is a heatblock that is both longer than the original Dragon's (for the increased melt zone needed for higher flow) and 10 grams lighter than the original Dragon complete with heating element included.

74 mm³/s Maximum Flow — Dragon HF Throat + Volcano-Style Heatblock

The Dragon ACE achieves its flow rate by combining two proven geometries: the original Dragon HF throat design — with its precisely machined inner bore (≤ Ra0.3 roughness) that minimizes flow resistance — with a volcano-style elongated heatblock that extends the active melt zone significantly beyond a standard Dragon block. With the optional Melt Zone Extender (MZE) installed, the total hot-side length reaches 40mm and maximum practical flow reaches 74 mm³/s (tested with PETG through a 1.2mm nozzle — see the documentation link below for the full test report). Without MZE, the Dragon ACE still delivers substantially higher flow than the original Dragon in the same form factor.

Titanium Alloy Heatbreak — Thicker Wall, Better Abrasion Resistance

The original Dragon uses a thin-wall stainless steel heatbreak tube — excellent thermal isolation, but thin-wall steel is vulnerable to abrasive wear when running fiber-filled composite filaments regularly. The Dragon ACE upgrades this to a titanium alloy heatbreak that is thicker-walled than the stainless alternative. Titanium's combination of low thermal conductivity (needed for the sharp thermal gradient), high mechanical strength, and significantly better abrasion resistance makes it the correct material for sustained printing with PLA-CF, PA-CF, PA-GF, and other abrasive composites that would eventually score a standard steel heatbreak.

One-Handed Nozzle Changes — The Signature Dragon Feature, Preserved

The Dragon ACE retains the low-conductivity titanium retention screws that define the Dragon nozzle-change experience. The heatblock stays cool enough at the screw positions to handle without burning, allowing the nozzle to be swapped single-handed without tools or hot tightening at installation — just the final hot-tighten to seal. The Dragon ACE uses V6-style nozzles with 7.5mm thread length — verify this spec before ordering replacement nozzles, as standard V6 nozzles use 6mm thread and will not seat correctly.

When Do You Need This?

The Dragon ACE is the right choice when you're running an existing Dragon-platform toolhead and want the next level of flow and heat-up speed without switching ecosystems — all your mounts, adapters, and V6-thread nozzles transfer over with the included spacer. It's also the correct hotend for sustained abrasive filament use where a standard Dragon's thin-wall stainless heatbreak would eventually show wear. And if you're building a new high-speed CoreXY and want maximum flow in a V6-footprint hotend without the added complexity of a completely different platform, the ACE's 74 mm³/s ceiling with MZE gives you headroom that virtually no build will exceed.
