Bondtech LGX Pro Metal Extruder — Full Metal Dual Drive, 1.75mm, 30mm Pancake Motor

The Bondtech LGX Pro Metal is the full-metal upgrade to the original LGX Large Gears eXtruder — built for industrial and high-temperature applications where plastic housings, standard drive gears, and limited push force create failures. Aluminum housing, hardened steel drive train, larger drive wheels for maximum filament grip, and a 30mm pancake stepper motor. Everything that made the LGX popular, rebuilt without compromise for demanding environments and abrasive filaments.

Full Metal — Why It Matters for High-Temperature Printing

Standard extruder housings use injection-molded plastic that softens and deforms in sustained high-temperature chamber environments — exactly the conditions required for ABS, ASA, PA, PC, and fiber-reinforced materials. The LGX Pro Metal replaces the housing with aluminum, eliminating heat creep deformation at the extruder body and providing a rigid mounting platform that doesn't flex under the load of a heavy direct-drive hotend. The full hardened steel drive train handles abrasive filaments — carbon fiber, glass fiber, and similar composites — without wearing down the drive surface over time.

Dual Drive with Large Gears — More Grip, Higher Feed Rates

Bondtech's Dual Drive Technology grips the filament from both sides simultaneously, doubling the contact surface compared to single-drive designs. The LGX uses larger-diameter drive wheels than standard dual-drive extruders, which increases the grip surface area further and reduces the risk of filament grinding under high-torque loads. The result is higher maximum feed rates, more consistent push force at speed, and better performance with flexible filaments that single-drive and small-wheel designs struggle with.

Key Features

  • Aluminum housing — rigid, heat-resistant, suitable for enclosed high-temperature chambers
  • Full hardened steel drive train — handles abrasive filaments without gear wear
  • Larger drive wheels — increased filament contact and grip surface
  • 30mm NEMA17 pancake stepper motor — strong output in a compact, lightweight package
  • New filament pre-tension lever — open position plus 4 indexed positions for repeatable, consistent results across filament types
  • Multi-function interface socket — quick swap between tool or application configurations
  • Aluminum Interface Plug — supports longer hotends that standard plastic plugs can't accommodate
  • Multiple mounting hole patterns — flexible installation across printer platforms
  • Compact, symmetric design — reduced toolhead mass, improved performance at high accelerations
  • Dust and particle protection — improved sealing for industrial environments

Who Is This For?

The LGX Pro Metal is the right choice for builders running enclosed chambers at sustained high temperatures, printing abrasive engineering filaments regularly, or pushing feed rates where standard extruders start grinding or slipping. If you've worn out a plastic-housed extruder, stripped drive gears on a budget dual-drive, or lost push force consistency with flexible filaments — this is the component that eliminates those failure modes.
