Phaetus Conch Hotend for Bambu Lab A1 and A1 Mini — M4 EndCoat™ or Silicon Carbide Plus, 30 mm³/s, 320°C, Kinematic Coupling

The Phaetus Conch is a purpose-built performance hotend for the Bambu Lab A1 and A1 Mini — available in two variants that share the same high-flow architecture but differ in nozzle technology. Both deliver up to 30 mm³/s volumetric flow, 320°C max temperature, and a rigid kinematic coupling system that reduces crash damage and simplifies maintenance. The difference comes down to how much abrasion resistance you need and whether you want a replaceable nozzle or an integrated one.

⚠️ Heater cartridge and thermistor are NOT included in either variant. Reuse your existing Bambu A1 / A1 Mini heater and thermistor during installation.
⚠️ Compatible with Bambu Lab A1 and A1 Mini only. This is not the X1/P1 version — verify your printer model before ordering.
⚠️ Conch Plus nozzle is fully integrated and cannot be replaced individually. The M4 nozzle is replaceable.

Phaetus Conch M4 hotend for Bambu Lab A1 and A1 Mini — replaceable EndCoat nozzle HV3300, 30mm³/s flow rate

M4 vs Plus — Which Conch Do You Need?

Both variants share the same hotend body, flow geometry, temperature ceiling, and kinematic coupling system. The only difference is the nozzle:

Conch M4 Conch Plus
Nozzle type EndCoat™ hardened steel (replaceable) Silicon carbide — fully integrated
Nozzle hardness HV3300 (EndCoat coating) Mohs 9.8 (SiC — near-diamond hardness)
Lifespan vs hardened steel Up to 2.5× longer Up to 7× longer
Nozzle replaceable? Yes — swap nozzle sizes independently No — fully integrated assembly
Nozzle sizes 0.2mm / 0.4mm / 0.6mm / 0.8mm 0.4mm (fixed)
Best for CF/GF composites, multi-size flexibility Glow-in-the-dark, ultra-abrasive filaments, maximum nozzle longevity
Flow rate Up to 30 mm³/s Up to 30 mm³/s
Max temperature 320°C 320°C

EndCoat™ Nozzle (M4) — HV3300 Hardness, Replaceable by Size

The M4 variant uses a replaceable EndCoat™ nozzle — a hardened steel body with a proprietary surface coating rated at HV3300 hardness. For reference, standard hardened steel nozzles typically measure HV600–900. At HV3300, the EndCoat surface is dramatically harder than any conventional hardened steel nozzle, delivering up to 2.5× longer service life against abrasive filaments like carbon fiber, glass fiber, and particle-loaded composites. Because the nozzle is replaceable via the M4 thread, you can swap between 0.2mm, 0.4mm, 0.6mm, and 0.8mm sizes without replacing the entire hotend — keeping your investment in the Conch body while changing diameter for different applications.

Silicon Carbide Nozzle (Plus) — Mohs 9.8, 7× Harder Than Hardened Steel

The Plus variant integrates a silicon carbide (SiC) nozzle — a ceramic compound with a Mohs hardness of 9.8, just below diamond at 10. This puts it in a completely different league from any metal nozzle, including hardened steel and tungsten carbide alternatives. The result is up to 7× longer nozzle lifespan versus hardened steel under sustained abrasive conditions. This is the correct variant for filaments that accelerate wear even on hardened nozzles — primarily glow-in-the-dark (strontium aluminate particles), boron carbide composites, and other ultra-aggressive filler materials. The SiC nozzle is fully integrated into the hotend body and cannot be replaced individually — when the nozzle eventually wears, the assembly is replaced as a unit.

Phaetus Conch Plus hotend for Bambu Lab A1 Mini — integrated silicon carbide nozzle Mohs 9.8, 7x wear resistance vs hardened steel

Kinematic Coupling System — Impact Protection Built Into the Mount

Both Conch variants use a rigid kinematic coupling system for hotend mounting. Kinematic couplings use precisely located contact points to provide repeatable, high-rigidity positioning that returns to the same geometry every time the hotend is seated — while also providing a controlled failure mode during toolhead crashes. Rather than transferring full impact force directly to the hotend body or the printer's carriage, the kinematic mount absorbs and redirects crash energy, significantly reducing the risk of catastrophic damage to the hotend or gantry components. This directly reduces maintenance costs and downtime from nozzle-strike incidents.

30 mm³/s High-Flow Architecture — Designed for A1 Speed

The Bambu A1 and A1 Mini are fast CoreXY machines, but the stock hotend is their volumetric bottleneck. The Conch's high-flow internal geometry increases heat-transfer surface area within the melt zone — achieving up to 30 mm³/s with the A1's existing motion and extruder hardware. Combined with the 320°C maximum operating temperature, this opens up engineering-grade materials (ABS, ASA, PA, PC, and their fiber-filled variants) on a platform that is often assumed to be limited to PLA and PETG.

When Do You Need This?

Choose the Conch M4 if you print a mix of abrasive and standard materials and want the flexibility to swap nozzle sizes — it's the practical daily-driver upgrade for A1 owners printing CF-nylon, PETG-CF, or ASA alongside standard PLA/PETG. Choose the Conch Plus if your primary use case involves the most aggressive abrasive filaments — particularly glow-in-the-dark, boron carbide composites, or any material that visibly wears through hardened nozzles faster than expected. The SiC nozzle's 7× lifespan advantage makes the Plus the economically correct choice for sustained high-abrasion printing even at a higher upfront cost.
