Positron 3D Printer Kit — Foldable Portable CoreXY, Klipper, 180×180×170mm Build Volume

The Positron is a compact, foldable CoreXY 3D printer that fits inside a standard filament box, deploys in under a minute, and prints upside down to maximize build volume in the smallest possible folded footprint. Built on Klipper with a Raspberry Pi CM4 and a custom LDO mainboard, it's a full-featured printer that happens to go wherever you go — office, job site, boat, van, or airport. This is a DIY kit requiring assembly and 3D printed parts.

The Design — Prints Upside Down, Folds Flat

The Positron's defining feature is its inverted kinematics: it prints with the nozzle moving below the build plate rather than above it. This lets the entire mechanism fold into a 200×200×70mm package — thin enough to slip into a carry-on — while still delivering a 180×180×170mm build volume when deployed. The glass bed sits on top, parts print downward, and the whole system unfolds and is ready to print in roughly one minute. At approximately 3kg without a case and 5.5kg with a Pelican case, it's genuinely portable in a way no other printer is.

Travel-Tested & Low Power

The Positron runs on a 24V 200W desktop power supply — low enough consumption to run off a power inverter in a van, on a boat, or via ship power on a cruise. It has passed through major U.S. airports without issue when TSA guidelines are followed. USB and Ethernet connectivity ensure you can load prints regardless of Wi-Fi reliability at the venue. It's the only 3D printer that can realistically go with you on a job site or travel assignment.

Klipper — Fully Customizable

The Positron runs Klipper on a Raspberry Pi CM4 with a custom LDO Positron mainboard. All RGB lights are fully addressable. The expandable mainboard supports add-ons including a filament runout sensor, integrated PSU, and additional cooling. Load prints via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB — whichever is available. Customization is unrestricted: macros, Input Shaping, remote monitoring via Mainsail or Fluidd — it all works.

What's Included & What You Need

This is a DIY hardware kit — assembly is required, and 3D printed parts are not included in the kit. Printed parts are available separately from West3D, or you can print your own using the STL files on the Positron GitHub. Assembly documentation is available on the LDO Assembly Guide.

Community & Support

The Positron has an active community at positron3d.com with a Wiki, Discord, and ongoing development. If you run into questions during the build or want to share your result, the community is the place to go.
