Piezoelectric Bed Leveling Probe Built Into Your Revo Heatsink, Voron Stealthburner

The Revo PZ Probe Voron is E3D's answer to a question every Voron builder eventually asks: what if the nozzle itself was the probe? That's exactly what this is. A piezoelectric sensor is factory-fitted directly inside a Revo Voron heatsink — so when your nozzle touches the bed during Z-homing, the probe triggers instantly, no separate sensor needed. No Tap arm. No Klicky magnet. No separate mount. Just the nozzle.

⚠️ This is the Coldside only — the heatsink with the PZ Probe built in. It does NOT include a HeaterCore, nozzle, or heater block. You need to pair it with a compatible Revo Hotside pack (see section below). If you need a complete Revo Voron hotend, check the Hotside pairing options below.

⚠️ Not plug-and-play: Installation requires Klipper configuration. Some sensitivity tuning may be needed depending on your motion system rigidity. Read the full E3D technical datasheet before installing.

How Does a Piezoelectric Probe Work? (Simple Version)

You know how some lighters click and spark without batteries? They use a piezoelectric crystal — squeeze it and it produces electricity. The PZ Probe uses the exact same physics. A tiny piezo element is embedded inside the heatsink. The moment your Revo nozzle touches the print bed during Z-homing, the physical impact compresses the piezo crystal, it generates an electrical signal, and your printer knows exactly where the bed surface is.

Because the nozzle IS the probe, there is zero offset between where the probe measures and where the filament actually prints. That's what makes this more accurate than systems that measure from a point next to the nozzle and then calculate the offset.

Why This vs Voron TAP or Klicky Probe?

Feature Revo PZ Probe Voron TAP Klicky Probe
Probe IS the nozzle? ✅ Yes ✅ Yes ❌ Separate sensor
Weight (heatsink + cables) ✅ Under 40g ❌ Heavier (moving arm) ❌ Extra hardware
Moving parts ✅ None ⚠️ Sliding rail mechanism ⚠️ Dock/undock magnet
Z offset after nozzle swap ✅ Calibrate once ✅ Auto ❌ May need reset
Klipper config needed ⚠️ Yes ⚠️ Yes ⚠️ Yes
Compatible with Revo nozzle swaps ✅ Designed for it ⚠️ Works but no auto Z offset ⚠️ Works but no auto Z offset

Calibrate Once. Swap Nozzles Forever.

This is the main reason Voron builders choose the PZ Probe. E3D's Revo nozzles swap at room temperature with your fingers — no tools, no hot tightening. But even with precise manufacturing, nozzles can vary slightly in total length. Normally that means re-doing your Z offset every time you swap.

With the PZ Probe: calibrate your Z offset once to account for your motion system's flexibility. After that, screw in any Revo nozzle, run your bed mesh, and print. The probe compensates automatically. That's the "Easy PZ" workflow.

Lightweight — Under 40g Total

The entire assembly — heatsink, piezo element, and cables — weighs under 40g. That's significantly less than a Voron TAP setup (which adds a sliding optical rail mechanism) or any external probe mounted to the toolhead. Less weight on the toolhead means less inertia, which means cleaner input shaping results and higher reliable print speeds.

Installation Overview

The heatsink drops in exactly where your standard Revo Voron heatsink sits — it's a direct replacement, same form factor. The only extra step is routing the Flat Flex Cable (included) from the heatsink through the cable channel to the PZ Probe Board, then connecting the board to your mainboard.

For the SteveBuilds mount on the Stealthburner, you'll need 2 additional printed parts to mount the PZ Board to the X-carriage — files are free on Printables.

Critical Notes Before You Buy

  • ⚠️ Max 5V input — do not exceed. Exceeding 5V can permanently damage the PZ Probe board. Check your mainboard's probe port voltage before connecting.
  • ⚠️ Not plug-and-play. Requires Klipper configuration, including setting trigger direction, output polarity (check batch number on back of PCB), and Z motor current reduction during probing. Starting point: 40% motor current during probing.
  • ⚠️ Rigid motion system required for best results. The more rigid your Z axis, the more consistent the probe. Loose belts or low Z tension cause false triggers.
  • ⚠️ Disassembly voids warranty. The heatsink is assembled to a specific torque. Taking it apart affects impact sensitivity and voids E3D's warranty coverage.
  • ⚠️ Bed damage is not covered under warranty. Always run probing with reduced Z motor current to prevent the nozzle from crashing into the bed if a trigger fails.

Pair With a Hotside — Complete Your Setup

This PZ Probe is the Coldside — the heatsink and probe. To print, you also need a Revo Hotside pack (HeaterCore + nozzles). Choose the one that matches how you print:

E3D Revo Hotside pairing options for Revo Voron PZ Probe — Starter, High Flow, High Flow X, Genius 400, Genius Metal

Hotside Pack Best For
Starter Standard speeds with PLA, PETG, and ASA
High Flow Maximum print speed on your Voron — push the limits
High Flow X High flow + abrasive resistance for CF/GF filaments
Genius 400 High temperature + high flow + abrasive printing in one kit
Genius Metal The maximum — metal-capable, all features unlocked

⚠️ Note: Hotside packs are sold separately. Each includes the HeaterCore (heater + thermistor) and a selection of Revo nozzles for immediate use.

Who Is This For?

  • Voron Stealthburner users running Revo who want to eliminate the TAP arm entirely — less weight, fewer moving parts, same (or better) Z accuracy.
  • Frequent nozzle swappers on Revo who are tired of recalibrating Z offset every single time — PZ Probe makes nozzle changes genuinely seamless.
  • Speed-focused builders where every gram on the toolhead matters — under 40g total vs TAP or any external probe solution.
  • Klipper-comfortable users who don't mind a config file — this is not a beginner product, but for someone who has already tuned a Voron, setup is straightforward following the E3D guide.
  • Builders who want a perfect first layer every time without manual adjustment — the piezo mesh is generated from the actual print nozzle, which means the mesh is as accurate as it can possibly be.
