Dynalabs Maxi PLA 850 Filament 2.5kg — Enhanced PLA in a Mid-Size Bulk Spool

The Maxi PLA 850 is the sweet spot between individual 1kg spools and massive 4kg rolls. At 2.5 kilograms for $32.45 ($12.98/kg), you get the enhanced strength and heat resistance of PLA 850 in a spool that fits on most standard spool holders while giving you 2.5x more material per change. Available in 6 core production colors: Black, White, Blue, Red, Bronze, and Silver Grey.

PLA 850 is based on NatureWorks Ingeo 3D850 resin, which offers higher crystallinity than standard PLA. This means parts can be annealed at 80–100°C to achieve heat deflection temperatures up to 120°C — making PLA 850 a viable alternative to ABS for many heat-sensitive applications, without the warping headaches and fume concerns of ABS.

Why 2.5kg Format?

Not everyone needs 4kg on a single spool. The 2.5kg Maxi format is designed for users who want bulk savings without the handling challenges of oversized spools. It fits on standard spool holders (most handle up to 3kg), works with filament dryers like the Sunlu S2 and eSun eBox, and weighs enough to run large prints without running out mid-job but not so much that it overwhelms lightweight spool holders.

Pro Tips

If you plan to anneal PLA 850 parts for heat resistance, print a few test pieces first to calibrate your shrinkage compensation. Annealing typically causes 1–3% shrinkage. Scale your model up by the measured percentage before printing production parts. The Bronze color variant looks particularly professional after annealing — the slight color shift during heat treatment gives it a deeper, richer tone.

Best Applications

Production runs requiring heat-resistant PLA, batch manufacturing of functional parts, print farm operations, large-format prints, cosplay projects, and any application where you need more than 1kg but the 4kg Megafill is overkill for your spool setup.
