Colony Clacker Door Kit for Micron 180 — Magnetic Fridge Door Latch, Foam Seal, 1515 Extrusions, by LDO Systems × PrintersForAnts

The Colony Clacker brings the iconic Clicky-Clack fridge door experience to the Micron 180 and other 1515-based Printers for Ants builds. Designed from scratch by the PrintersForAnts community and manufactured by LDO Systems, this is a complete hardware kit — 1515 aluminum extrusions, N52 magnets, dowel pins, all fasteners, and foam sealing tape — ready to build with your printed parts and door panel. The magnetic latch delivers that satisfying snap-shut clack on every close, and the foam tape seal keeps your chamber temperature consistent for ABS, ASA, and high-temp engineering materials.

⚠️ Micron 180 only. This kit is sized for the 180mm version of the Micron / Micron+. Not compatible with Micron 120, Salad Fork, or other PFA printers without modification.
⚠️ Printed parts are NOT included. You must print the Colony Clacker STLs before assembling. All STLs are pre-oriented for printing and available free on GitHub.
⚠️ Door panel availability depends on variant selected. Check your variant selection — this listing is available with or without the acrylic panel.
⚠️ Foam tape quantity: Kit includes 1.3m of foam tape. A double seal requires ~2.5m — plan accordingly if you want double seals (leave no margin for error on cuts).

Not a Scale — A Full Redesign for 1515 Printers

The original Clicky-Clack Fridge Door by tanaes is designed for 2020-extrusion Voron builds. Simply scaling it down to 1515 doesn't work — the geometry, tolerances, hinge pin sizing, and magnet placement all need to be recalculated for a smaller frame and lighter door panel. The Colony Clacker is a complete remodel from scratch, not a rescale. Hinge clearances are tightened for the 1515 profile, the latch is optimized for the smaller door mass, STLs are pre-oriented for best print quality using standard Voron settings, and variants are provided for different panel and foam thicknesses — covering frame-to-door distances from 2.8mm to 6.0mm in 0.2mm increments so the fit is precise regardless of your panel material and foam spec.

N52 Magnets + Dowel Pin Hinges — The Clack Mechanism

The satisfying snap of the Colony Clacker comes from 8× 6mm×3mm N52 magnets embedded in the printed latch body — N52 being the strongest commercially available permanent magnet grade. When the door reaches the closed position, the magnets engage with a definitive click that confirms the door is sealed, not just resting against the frame. The hinges use 5mm×40mm dowel pins through M5 split bushings for smooth, backlash-free rotation that keeps the door aligned on every open and close cycle. On initial build, if clacking is subdued, check that the two latch screws aren't overtightened and allow a few sessions for the foam to compress and settle.

Foam Tape Seal — Chamber Temperature Where It Belongs

Passive enclosures on small printers lose chamber heat fast through door gaps. The Colony Clacker includes 3mm foam tape that compresses against the frame when the door closes, creating a continuous perimeter seal. This is what elevates the Colony Clacker from an aesthetic mod to a functional upgrade — ABS and ASA printing on a Micron benefits directly from a properly sealed door that holds chamber temperatures above the warping threshold. The foam also cushions the door close, giving the clack a satisfying tactile feel rather than a hard impact.

1515 Aluminum Extrusions — LDO Quality, Black Anodized

The kit includes all 1515 aluminum extrusions needed for the door frame in black anodized finish — matching the LDO Micron kit aesthetic. Extrusions are cut to the correct lengths for the Micron 180 door geometry. No additional cutting required.

What's Included

1515 aluminum extrusions — all lengths for Micron 180 door frame, black anodized
8× 6mm×3mm N52 magnets (latch)
4× 5mm×40mm dowel pins (hinges)
4× M5×7mm×8mm split bushings (hinges)
M3 fastener kit — BHCS and SHCS in required lengths, M3 hex nuts
1.3m foam tape — 3mm (single seal; 2.5m needed for double seal)
✅ (variant) Acrylic door panel — if "with panel" variant selected

What's NOT Included

Printed parts — download STLs free from the Colony Clacker GitHub and print before assembly
Door panel — if "without panel" variant selected
Additional foam tape for double seal — kit includes 1.3m, double seal requires ~2.5m total

Hinge Variants — Panel and Foam Thickness

Colony Clacker STLs include hinge variants sized for different frame-to-door distances, from 2.8mm to 6.0mm in 0.2mm steps. The required offset is embossed on the back of each hinge STL (e.g., "6" = 6mm). Select the correct variant based on your panel thickness plus foam tape thickness. For standard 3mm acrylic + 3mm foam, use the 6mm variant as a starting point and adjust if the door doesn't close flush.
