Tough, Impact Resistant Resin for Functional Parts

ABS-like resin is the most popular engineering resin in desktop 3D printing. Formulated to mimic the mechanical properties of ABS thermoplastic, these resins deliver significantly higher impact resistance, toughness, and dimensional stability than standard photopolymers — while retaining the fine surface detail that makes resin printing so attractive. The result is parts that look great and actually perform under real-world conditions.

ABS-like resins from Elegoo, Anycubic, and Phrozen have become the go-to choice for functional prototypes, mechanical housings, enclosures, snap-fit components, and any application where standard resin would crack or shatter under stress. They cure at 405nm and are fully compatible with all MSLA and SLA printers.

ABS-Like Resin vs Standard Resin

Standard resin produces exceptional surface detail but is notoriously brittle — it cracks easily under impact or bending stress. ABS-like resin solves this problem by incorporating rubber-like additives that absorb energy before fracture. The tradeoff is a slightly lower maximum detail resolution, but for most functional applications the mechanical improvement far outweighs any visual difference.

ABS-Like Resin vs ABS Filament

ABS-like resin doesn't replace ABS filament for high-temperature applications — its heat deflection temperature is typically lower than printed ABS. However, for room-temperature functional parts, ABS-like resin produces smoother surfaces, tighter tolerances, and more complex geometries than FDM-printed ABS. It's the better choice when precision and surface finish matter more than heat resistance.
